KU design chair to appear on talk radio
Industry Expert/Department Head to Discuss Practical “Sustainable
Design” Solutions
Lawrence, KS – Today it was announced that Gregory
Thomas, Chair of the Department of Design in KU’s School
of Fine Arts, will begin his first of several scheduled appearances
on News Radio 980 KMBZ’s Living Large show Sunday, March
5, 2006. “Living Large” is a fast-paced one hour
newsmagazine dedicated to the enhancement and enjoyment of
one’s home, as well as the celebration of “the
good life.” The host is respected interior designer
Karen Mills, who will also be joined by a broad line-up of
home and design experts.
“More and more, we’re constantly reminded that
‘good design’ is an important contributor to this
idea of ‘good living,’” said Thomas. “I’m
excited to share my insights with the ‘Living Large’
audience this Sunday.”
Professor Thomas’ inaugural visit will focus on the
topic of “sustainable design.” As one of the hottest
topics of the day, sustainable design involves the creation
of buildings, consumer products, etc., that have the least
effect on our natural resources. Thomas was requested to help
define sustainable design, its impacts and thoughts on how
it can be implemented. Architects Robert Humble and Sim Van
der Ryn, well-known authorities on the subject, will join
him on the program.
Host Mills and Executive Producer Andrew Ellenberg have requested
future design-related topics to be considered for on-air segments
on the program.
“This is a great opportunity to not only alert KC Metro
listeners (and beyond) to practical, real-world design solutions,
but to bring the KU Department of Design to the awareness
of ‘Living Large’ listeners,” Thomas said.
The “Sustainable Design” show on “Living
Large” airs Sunday, March 5th at 1 pm on News Radio
980 KMBZ. Interviews, video clips and podcasts can be found
